A new treatment for multidrug-resistant bacteria published in Nature Communications
A novel dual-acting anti-virulence strategy that shuts down bacterial toxins and biofilms, and evades antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
In a recently published Nature Communications paper, we explore how a novel dual-acting anti-virulence strategy effectively shuts down bacterial virulence factors including toxins and biofilms. Uniquely, the treatment evades antibiotic resistance mechanisms and remains effective against resistant bacteria including Top Priority carbapenem- and third/fourth-generation cephalosporin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii “superbugs”.
The international consortium consists of researchers from Aalto University, University of Helsinki, Oakland University and University of Windsor, and was headed by Arivin therapeutics.
